I think I’ve mentioned before that DH wanted to hang a quilt on the back wall of the garage in our Momentum.
As you can see in this photo, there is a big black wall. This folds down to make a ramp for loading our Harley, so we can’t attach anything to it.
But DH installed some hooks on the walls from which we can hang a rod. And on the rod we have some curtain rings that have clips on them. Right now we have an old quilt clipped up and hanging on that wall. Unfortunately, it isn’t the right size. It’s a little too short side to side and a little too long top to bottom.
So DH asked if I could make something to fit.
Hm-m-m. Let me think about that for a minute.
Yes, I think I could make a quilt that would fit that space. 😉
First I ordered fabric! I knew I wanted to do a United States map in the center and there just happened to be a panel at Hancock’s of Paducah, on sale even!! So I got the panel and a pack of coordinating fat quarters.
Next we measured – 95 x 57, or thereabouts. I believe my final size will be 94 x 56 just to make the math a little easier.
Then, I started graphing out a pattern. I had to finagle a few things to make it come out even, but I think I have a workable design.
Finally, I pulled fabric from my stash to make enough yardage for that size quilt. How do these look together? You might have to enlarge the photo to see all the fabric.
BTW – this is Wyndham Coast to Coast. I really like the happy colors.
My idea is to sew a button or embroider a star in each state that we have camped in. I hope to be able to do at least 48 buttons in the next few years!!! 49 would be fantastic (Alaska) but I’m not sure how we could camp in all 50 (hard to take the Momentum to Hawaii, I would think!!)
I’m trying to surprise DH with the design – it’s a good thing he isn’t on the Internet very much. He doesn’t follow my blog and he isn’t on Facebook. But all you all need to keep my secret for a little while!!
