More Christmas in October

puppy

She followed me home from the store.

She looked so lonely and sad that I just pet her for a little while.

Can I keep her?

PLEASE!!!

I promise I’ll feed her and take good care of her.

And she won’t get in the way.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!

Isn’t she adorable!?!

Here’s a picture of her:

401a

What, you didn’t seriously think I was talking about a puppy, did you!?! OMGoodness, no, I bought a beautiful Singer 401a that I saw at the local Goodwill store.

Isn’t she SWEET!?!

I had to do some serious polishing of her outside, but her inner workings are in great shape. I don’t think she was used much at all. The cabinet she came in isn’t in the best of condition. It seems sturdy enough, but the finish is not good.

Her serial number indicates that she was manufactured in 1951.

She didn’t come with any extras but there are a number of websites I can check out to try to get some things. Her bobbins are the same as my 15-99, so I have plenty of them to work with. And right now I’m content just doing straight stitch on her, so I don’t have to have a bunch of different feet. I’m having a little trouble with thread breakage, which could be the thread or it could be a rough spot somewhere, maybe in the tension mechanism. So I’ll have to do a bit more fiddling with her to get that worked out.

Today is WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced. Click HERE to see the lovely quilt Lee is working on (I may have to try that pattern sometime!) and the other links.

My WIP’s for the next few days aren’t as exciting. I’m replacing a zipper in DS#3’s jacket. Ugh!!! Zippers!!

And I’m production sewing some more mug rugs. DH liked the one that I made for Elizabeth. I assured him that I would make one for him. Well, when I was sewing the homespun base I just cut full width of fabric strips, so I have enough to make a set of six for DH.

It’s mostly all hand sewing, so I have it sitting beside my chair in the living room to work on in the evenings while watching TV.

Peace

  1. You know once you start bringing them home, it’s harder to say no to the next one. THe next thing you know, you’ll be called the sewing machine collector… or my case Cat Lady. My pretty little calico barn cat would be so much easier to take care of in my house. With the three other cats in residence already. And a DH that talks about giving them away to anyone that seems to like cats. Sigh. I’m up to 3 sewing machines now but if I saw a cutie for sale cheap, I’d probably have some explaining to do!
Can’t wait to see you Friday!

  2. Yep you got me! I was soaking it in as to how cute that puppy is! I happen to be a dog lover! Sweet little machine you got! Hope you get her figured out where she’s not breaking thread. Keep making DH those mug rugs! Could buy you another vintage machine!
